Is a form of alternative medicine that uses plant materials known as ‘essential oils’ and other aromatic compounds for the purpose of psychological and physical wellbeing. Aromatherapists blend essential oils. Methods of use include topical application, massage, inhalation or water immersion to stimulate desired responses. Aromatherapy has not yet undergone much scientific scrutiny as other complementary therapies, but research so far shows that it can be an effective treatment for some complaints.
